Felt it was stating the obvious at times. While it’s fun to have a list of cruel snappy comebacks or caricature of people you should hate, it’s hardly the sort of thing I think of when I think “art” and “neglected pleasure. I spent a good deal of my life being quiet, and preferring not to speak unless I had something to say, so it caught my eye when I saw someone dedicate a book on conversation.

I noticed this happened less the further I got into the book, but it happened throughout. The Art of Conversation. Regarding the content, the book is first rate, as Blyth presents good guidance on navigating conversation.
This is a fascinating topic and would merit a book-length discussion on its own.

Catherine Blyth reveals the endless possibilities concersation conversation and shows that when it works it can come close to heaven. Get breaking stories straight from Hollywood, covering film, television, music and more. But I suppose there are some good points in it.
Not quite what I was hoping for.

The Art of Conversation is definitely one of them. It’s not texting “ILY” to traversing the conversational terrain of the workplace or what best to say if you’re caught in a verbal war my favorite response to the arrogant, “Do you know who I am? The book offers a host of delightful tips on listening, talking shop and even surviving conversational bores — Diplomat.
It was catherkne dull and terribly written in my opinion. For the Almohadly challenged among us, Blyth offers a chapter crash course in how to get the most out of conversation by various means, including sincere flattery, careful listening, judicious flirtation and, if none of the above is working, a lethal retort.

I did like how the book is organized — a chapter for each different aspect of conversation, each with a set of “Rules” — catherinf she kills the momentum with her writing.

Most darnedest of all is the language of the author – who does she think she is, talking in circles, talking about random stuffs, referring to memes that we know nothing of. The author’s writing style xrt me.
Let’s have a chinwag
But the book is less about Chanelle-esque manipulation although a chapter is devoted to acerbic putdowns and more about resurrecting the simple joys of talking to each other. If you find the book’s writing to be a bit too much, you can take the highlight version and read just the bolded rules in each chapter though, if you do this, why bother reading conversatiob book? You’ll never think of talk as cheap ever again. Lost Art of Good Conversation: Actually did not finish.
