You cidnerella talk with your class about the Spanish phrases, and maybe even have a student who is an ELL student help you read those phrases in the book. It is good for students to read a variety of texts that show diverse main characters and my students were thoroughly engaged throughout this read aloud. Nonetheless, the wedding took place and the new family settled down. A fun point about this story is that at the end, Adelita references the original Cinderella which is not done in other books often.

I would recommend this book to children ages five and up since the Spanish language might be a tad bit too confusing for smaller children to understand.

The story is very similar to the Disney Cinderella story, but it is more realistic. Thus, the story becomes a way to introduce Spanish to English speakers, while letting children of Hispanic descent see their own language and culture represented in print.

The real strength of the illustrations, though, is in capturing the flavor of the Mexican setting. This adelitw a nice book for young students that are bilingual in english and spanish. Javier lays eyes on Adelita and falls in love instantly.
